Since 1972, the Hong Kong Jockey Club has offered a comprehensive training programme for youngsters who want to join the racing industry for 50 years. Many of the Club's trainees have gone on to become world-famous racing heroes who represent Hong Kong in international competitions as jockeys, trainers and other professionals. The course of Racing Trainee provides riding, stable management, physical training, financial management and traditional academic subjects with qualifications recognised by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ). The recruitment of Racing Trainees will be held in June to August annually. If you have a passion to be one of us, this is a very good opportunity to follow your dream.

  • Passion for the racing industry and sports in general

The Foundation Course is held at Huangcun, Guangzhou. Racing Trainees are required to purchase school books and basic riding gears. During the course, they receive a monthly salary and free accommodation.

 

Recruitment process

For those who are interested, please fill in the Application Form and submit within the application period. Suitable applicants would be notified by the Club by phone call, and be invited to attend the second stage – Fitness Test.

Fitness test will be held in batches at Sha Tin Racecourse (TBC) . Candidates will have to take the following 8 tests:

Measurements of the candidates' heights and weights are also required. Those who are competent will be selected to enter Stage 3 – Interview & Riding Test.

Interview & Riding Test will be held in the Sha Tin Racecourse (TBC) , including interview and horse approaching. Qualified candidates will be entered in Stage 4.

Orientation & Selection Camp will be held in Huangcun, Guangzhou

Orientation & Selection Camp will be held in Huangcun, Guangzhou and will last for 3 days, so as to let the candidates experience the actual trainings of the Racing Trainees. Candidates are required to stay in the hostel during the camp, and they will receive trainings of horse riding, horse caring and physical fitness. A final assessment and interview will be held in order to select the qualified candidates in joining the new batch of the Racing Trainees.

Candidates are required to complete certain body movements on the horseback during the riding test.

The Course is an intensive and practical training programme for Racing Trainees – entry-level racing industry employees. The Foundation Course is held at Huangcun, Guangzhou.

Content:

Riding Training, Stable Management, Horse Handling, Sports Science, English, Physical Education, Computer Training and Wellness programme.

Assessment:

Continuous assessment and knowledge tests for Racing Trainees are conducted throughout the Course to ensure that all those taking part reach competent levels in line with the requirements for employment at the Club.
