The Hong Kong Jockey Club is committed to empowering and enabling Hong Kong’s young people to achieve their full potential, become active citizens and make a difference in society.
In celebration of its 140th anniversary, the Club has committed HK$1.4 billion to support a series of youth development initiatives, which aim to provide young people with enhanced support, diverse experiences and development opportunities that will equip them with the skills they need to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
The Club’s support for these initiatives, like all of its charitable contributions, is made possible by its unique integrated business model through which racing and responsible sports wagering generate substantial tax contributions, charity support and employment opportunities for Hong Kong.
We are committed to empowering Hong Kong’s young people to achieve their full potential and to uplifting the underprivileged so as to break the cycle of poverty. Here are some examples of our efforts over the years.
Investing in youth development
The Club has been supporting the annual Summer Youth Programme since its inception in 1969, empowering children and young people aged 6 - 25 years to broaden their horizons through community service, education and recreation. Responding to evolving needs, in 2011 the initiative became a year-round Youth Development Programme until it concluded.
Nurturing the life skills of junior secondary school students
The P.A.T.H.S. to Adulthood scheme, a collaboration with the Social Welfare Department and Education Bureau, aims to enhance life skills, build confidence and foster social bonds among junior secondary students. Since the 2005/2006 school year, more than 200 schools have participated.
Emergency relief for those in need
The Jockey Club Emergency Relief Fund (JCERF) is launched to provide immediate financial assistance to those affected by natural disasters, accidents, epidemics and other unexpected events. As of 2024, JCERF has supported over 800 individuals and families.
Food assistance for those facing financial hardship
The Club starts to fund the operating costs of hot meal production programme run by NGOs for the underprivileged. During COVID-19 pandemic, to cope with the unprecedented challenges to the community, the Club launches the Jockey Club Food Assistance Programme, offering various food aid channels to provide timely and round the clock assistance to over 170,000 individuals facing financial hardship.
Preparing students for the transition from school to work
The Club has launched multiple initiatives to enhance young people’s career and life planning, to support their transition from school to work and to encourage them to “LIVE DIFFERENT, LIVE FULL”. Initiatives include CLAP@JC, the Jockey Club CLAP-TECH Pathway, the JC PROcruit C traineeship programme, and the HYAB JC Scheme for Youth Life Planning.
Supporting youth mental well-being
The Jockey Club Electronic Clinic for Psychological Service and the Jockey Club Cyber Youth Outreach Service are launched, offering online resources and support for at-risk youth. In 2018, the Club launched the Jockey Club Online Youth Emotional Support “Open Up”, a 24/7-operated online text messaging emotional support platform, serving over 67,881 help-seeking individuals.
Creating community spaces for families in subdivided housing
The Club launches the Jockey Club Community Kitchen series in 2016, providing families living in subdivided housing units with access to amenities such as extended living spaces and shared kitchens. A total of five Community Kitchen have been established. The first Community Kitchen, the “Jockey Club Sunshine Neighbourhood Centre”, has served 1,579 families since its establishment in 2017.
Equipping young people with innovation and digital literacy
The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) Jockey Club Digital Transformation Centre helps over 1,200 young people master digital trends and gain future skills through multimedia training. In collaboration with the government and professional bodies, the Operation SoInno programme, launched in 2018, helped address social challenges through innovative ideas and practical actions.
Expanding access to mental health support
JC LevelMind aims to foster a youth-friendly, stigma-free environment for young people to relax and seek help from mental health professionals through a network of 45 wellness hubs in 18 districts. It has reached over 20,000 young people and trained more than 140 registered social workers. Building on this success, the project expanded its integrated school-community one-stop mental health support to 130 secondary schools in 2024.
Integrated learning to promote youth development
The HKAYP Jockey Club Duke of Edinburgh Training Camp in Tai Po is an integrated learning venue offering digital technology, creative culture and innovative sports. Redeveloped in 2020, it helps young people discover their potential, cultivate innovative thinking and develop their persona and community spirit.
Promoting user-centricity and transforming youth service centres
21C@JC aims to transform Integrated Children and Youth Service Centres (ICYSCs) into future-looking and youth-driven spaces, expecting to benefit over 50,000 young people by the end of 2026; the Jockey Club The Year of Go! supports 60,000 young people aged 12 -17 connect with their peers post-pandemic and discover culture, art and sports.
Mentoring underprivileged students
The Club supports the Government's Strive and Rise Programme, which aims to broaden the horizons of Hong Kong students and help them set future goals. The Programme has benefited over 6,000 underprivileged young people in the first two cohorts through mentorship and programmes that enhance self-confidence and goal setting.
Nurturing tomorrow’s leaders
The Jockey Club Badges: Preparing Tomorrow’s Leaders Programme empowers over 5,000 uniformed groups youth members to develop innovative social service projects through creative approaches, benefiting 100,000 underprivileged individuals; The Jockey Club Smart Teens Actions empowers young people to bridge Hong Kong's digital divide. It aims to engage over 600 young people and serve 13,200 digitally disadvantaged individuals.
Empowering underprivileged families to build better futures
JC PROJECT LIFT helps underprivileged families in transitional housing by setting development goals and enhancing family capacity, providing innovative savings scheme, and empowering employment services. Supported by the Housing Bureau and the Labour and Welfare Bureau, in collaboration with 18 partners, it aims to benefit approximately 14,000 families across 24 transitional housing sites and 2 Light Public Housing sites.
Supporting underprivileged children and youth living in care homes
JC Project Bonfire supports children and youth under 21 living in residential care homes that lack parental support and resources. It works with over 150 organisations to support more than 1,300 children and youth across 80% of Hong Kong’s Small Group Homes, aiming to build their positive development trajectory, improve social networks, resilience and self-esteem of the youth.
Bereavement support for children and young people
The JC Echoes of Love Fund targets to benefit 1,000 bereaved children and young people and their surviving caregivers. It aims to develop a positive trajectory for underprivileged children and youth who have lost their parent, by providing them bereavement support, generation of a personalised development plan and monthly stipend of a maximum of HK$2,000 for up to five years.
