How to become a Racing Trainee - Daily Life

The training of Racing Trainees is very tough. Trainees have to be absolutely determined and devoted, so as to cope with the rigorous schedule. A typical day for the trainees in Apprentice Jockeys' School is outlined below:

3:30 Wake up and prepare for trackwork

4:30 Trackwork under supervision from riding instructors

6:30 Grooming of horses

8:30 Breakfast, shower, and prepare for classes

9:30 Chinese / English Lesson / Certification Course in Racing

12:00 Lunch

14:00 Ding practices under supervision from riding instructors

15:00 Stable Work (feeding horses, cleaning stable etc.)

16:30 Fitness / Computer Lesson / Sports Science

18:30 Dinner

21:00 Bedtime

 

Lifestyle support management

We provide a series of lifestyle management support in connection to the Club's philosophy and culture for equipping the racing trainees with positive attitude to work. Adapting to the personal development approach, we developed the following programs for achieving the progressive improvement of our racing trainees:

Program Content
Induction Program Orientation of stable work and basic knowledge on horse care at Shatin Racecourse, diversified workshops to develop multi-intelligence, fitness assessment, workshops and practical sessions, boot camp, Other essential lessons (e.g. first aid, OSH and anti-drug and alcohol workshop)
Wellness Program Orientation programme and career consultation, physical education, volunteer services, cultural experience, moral education, core competencies learning

Summer Activities Program

Environmental protection, self-understanding, to learn a new sport, recreation and leisure management
